Mixed Media Sculpture ~ Assemblages ~ Tactile Art

Christine Marie Davis - Artist and Sculptor

Artist and sculptor Christine Marie Davis assembles found objects with fiber, and mixed media materials to create tactile, erotic, surrealist sculptures. The sensuous shapes and seductive surfaces of her sculptures are intended to evoke an irresistible desire to touch or hold on the part of the viewer. She works with soft materials such as hair, fur, leather, wax and rubber, referencing skin, the body and bodily processes. Assembling and contrasting these with hard, man-made materials such as ceramic, glass, wood and metal evolves into an invented object that appears attractive, intriguing and familiar, yet is also strange, puzzling and ultimately unsettling.

It was the tactile qualities of materials that initially drew her to move from working exclusively with clay and begin to experiment with fiber and mixed media sculptures. She now works with soft fiber materials such as hair, fur, leather, wax and rubber, referencing skin, the body and bodily processes. She then assembles and contrasts these with found objects made from harder materials such as ceramic, glass, wood and metal.
