About
the Artist -
Christine is an initiated Kuraq Akulleq (4th Level Shaman) in the Inka/Peruvian
Tradition. She also practices Vipassana Buddhist meditation. Her home is in the
mountains of south-central Colorado and she maintains a studio by the Arkansas
River. In
touch with the earth, water, sky, rocks, animals and plants on a daily basis,
she hikes, meditates and performs rituals in nature as part of her spiritual and
artistic practices. Many of her pieces are created from found objects and materials
collected in nature, incorporated into the artwork and then given back to the
earth. | Creation
- This project is based upon a belief that a spirit or presence dwells within
sacred objects. A sacred object can be created by giving full attention to the
materials, intent, purpose, and actions that go into its formation. Power flows
to it during the creative process from the artist/shaman and the earth. It becomes
further activated through initiation, ritual and burial. Once buried, the object
is released to its future with a new guardian and a new life.

Gestation
- During its time within the earth, the object enters its incubation phase,
similar to a gestation period of new life. Over time the object becomes charged
by the earth and the elements, it changes and ages. The longer it is buried the
greater the concentration of energy. Once excavated, the object is birthed by
the receiver who claims it as their own for a period of time and uses it to tap
this same energy and purpose that it was created with. |
