The
Chameleon Series
by Christine Marie Davis
Chameleons
are a series of assemblages of found objects made from glass, ceramic, bones,
and shells, combined with tactually contrasting materials such as hair, wax, fur
and rubber. Each piece is visually monochromatic, but tactually rich and varied.
Resembling household pets or domestic appliances. The Chameleons find their place
of rest on a plush pillow of matching color 24" x 24".
By
removing the normal visual cues of color and contrast, I am emphasizing the sensuous
and alluring nature of surface and texture; qualities that are often overlooked
in our hectic lives. These pieces invite us to touch and fondle, much like we
do with our domestic pets.

series was funded in part by the Rocky Mountain Women's Institute
