Pet-O-Mat
A Mini Museum of Tactile Delights

The Pet-o-Mat is a minature museum of touchable sculptures housed in a former sandwich vending machine. It is home to 49 curious creatures all made from found objects and tactile materials. The pets live in remodeled pet condos, former compartments originally designed to hold sandwiches and fruit. They hang out, waiting for you to come and visit them. Rotate the drum for a visual tour, open a door to pet one.

This project was designed as an intervention, to reach people who might not normally go to an art exhibit and to let the public interact with art in a way not normally allowed in museums and art galleries. It invites social participation, interaction and inquiry. The project expands the public's conception of what art is and how one interacts with it.

Vending Process
The machine operates like a typical vending machine except that nothing is for sale and nothing will be removed. Viewers rotate the drum to view, open a door and pet a creature. Pieces are secured inside the compartments so they cannot be taken.
