Cabinets
of Curiosities by Christine Marie Davis
Wunderkammers
were the percursors of the modern museum. Wealthy travelers collected unusual
objects and rare artifacts on their travels and brought them home to impress guests
and for their own amusement. Some of the objects were authentic, while others
were well-crafted fakes, designed to entice the unwary collector. This
is an ongoing series that explores the fantasy world of the wunderkammer. All
objects are fabrications and assemblages made from found objects and tactile materials.
Combining primitive and modern, organic and manmade, they are meant to entice
and repulse, intrigue and confound and likely stimulate primal, erotic fantasies. |
