| Relics,
Talismans, and Magical Objects housed in Antique Cabinet Wunderkammers were the precursors of the modern museum. From the size of a small cabinet similar to this to a whole room filled with "curiosities." Treasures were brought back from travels and displayed to impress guests, entertain and enliven daily lives before T.V. Many objects were "real" phenomena and others were fakes: shrunken heads, magic talismans, bones of the dead, animal parts, mutations of nature and so on. In our modern world, you may find similarities in the obsession with alien abductions, cattle mutilations, and government cover ups. Or our inability not to stare at freaks or things that are simply "different". Regarless of real or fake, we have a fascination with the bizarre, freakish and mysterious. This cabinet explores that fascination. Itis a special incubation place, where these found relics and talismans gather their "charge" before passing out into the world or going to burial places. | |||
